Set Your Mind on Things Above

“This is why I wait upon you, expecting your breakthrough, for your word brings me hope.”

~Psalm 130:5

A lot has happened in our world.

A lot has been happening in our country (Kenya).

As of yesterday, the number of people infected with Covid-19 in the country has gone up and so have the levels of fear, anxiety and worry. My mother and I were out yesterday and the atmosphere outside was charged with fear & anxiety- I could feel it in the core of my being, which was quite disturbing. There is an energy of restlessness that makes one so scared that you keep on checking over your shoulder, in an attempt to look out for yourself to avoid being infected.

I noticed this right after I had a conversation with my friend, and she shared with me her worries and I realized that many of us (including myself) share the same sentiments- the fear of being infected. The fear of our families and loved ones being infected. Fear of the drop of the economy, fear of businesses small and big closing down- you name it.

Yet at the same time I realized that we can’t let fear drive us. We can’t let it rule our hearts.

Now I am not saying don’t be informed and know what’s going on or don’t watch news- we need to know what’s happening so we can take the necessary action and furthermore, to know what instructions the government is giving to curb the spread of the virus.

What I am saying is GUARD. YOUR. HEART.

Guard your Heart.

“Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.”

~Proverbs 4:23 AMP

Yes, the situation is serious.

Yes, the situation may look grim, but remember who is on the throne. Remember that there is a God in heaven who watches over you; when you sleep, when you rise, when you eat, when you walk. Remember there is a God who said that he will give charge over His angels to watch over you to protect and defend and guard you [Psalm 91:11] and that a 1000 may fall at your side, 10,000 at your right hand but it will not come near you. [Psalm 91:7]

What will happen? You shall observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked [vs.8]

Remember, beloved, the sacrifice on calvary’s tree over 2000 years ago. What Jesus went through to break the curse of sin, death and infirmities when he declared ‘It is finished’. He was whipped 39 times and each time the whip hit his back and blood spurted out, that blood was shed for the purpose of healing- Isaiah 55:3 ‘By his stripes we are healed’.

I go on and on and on, but my point is, immerse yourself in God’s word.

Take time to sit at God’s feet and soak in His presence for this is where you will find your encouragement. This is where your hope. This is where you find life when everything around you is death, despair and hopelessness.

Believers, let us take up the Sword of the Spirit; along with the full armor of God, and use it to deal with fear, anxiety and worry. Remember that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the principalities and rulers of this dark world (Ephesians 6:12) and this is an attempt of the enemy to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), and one way he does that is through fear, worry and anxiety.

My prayer for you is that as you do this; as you set your mind on things above [Colossians 3:1-3] everything else fades away and the only thing you see is Jesus and his peace that surpasses all understanding guards your heart and mind [Philippians 4:7]. Yes, the world around you may be a storm, but within you will be at rest and calm, because you know who you are, whose you are and what he declares concerning your situation.

~Be Blessed and Be Still and Know He is God.
